This page shows the process of connecting to a remote Linux machine with a graphical interface (GUI). The process might not apply to all Linux installations. Please consult with your IT or system administrator if this type of connection is allowed. A desktop environment e.g. Gnome or Mate is required to be able to connect via GUI to the linux machine.
VNC connection
- Install 'vncserver' using your ditro's package manager.
- Check your Linux distribution's documentation for the VNC Server installation process.
- Allow access to the VNC ports on your Linux machine.
- Connect remotely from your local desktop via VNC client/viewer.
- On Windows, you can use TightVNC, RealVNC, or UltraVNC.
xRDP connection
- Install 'xrdp' using your ditro's package manager.
- Check your Linux distribution's documentation on how to install 'xrdp'.
- Allow access to the the xrdp port on your Linux machine.
- Start and run xrdp.
- Connect via Remote Desktop (RDP) from a Windows computer.
