When running large simulations, is may be beneficial at times to clear results other than those required for analysis to avoid storing unwanted data, increasing the size of the simulation file.
This article describes the methods to pick results that are saved while clearing other unwanted ones, reducing the simulation file size. This is useful for simulations running on Ansys Cloud Burst Compute for Lumerical FDTD™, where large simulation files may incur a long download time from the servers.
Model analysis group
The model analysis group at the top of the object tree contains a result picker that allows you to pick results from various monitors in the simulation file. You can find it in the analysis tab of the “model” object, which is also an analysis group. To add a result from a monitor, double click on the item in the results column.
Note: These options are only available on the “model” analysis group and not all analysis groups.
When the “clear child result” option is checked, you can clear all other results and only keep those in the list by running the analysis script of this group. This can be triggered either via the runanalysis built-in script command, or when you enable the “Run analysis scripts” option when running simulations on Ansys Cloud Burst Compute™ for Lumerical FDTD.
Sweeps
In sweeps, a similar checkbox named “force clear child results” deletes all other results except for those listed in the sweep when enabled.
The clearing only occurs when the analysis script is run and the sweep files are saved after analysis. The latter occurs when you enable the “resave files after analysis” checkbox for local sweeps and automatically occurs for sweeps on Ansys Cloud Burst Compute for Lumerical FDTD™.
Note: The clearing of results from the sweep window supersedes those in the model analysis group window. For example, if this option is enabled through the sweep window but not in the model analysis group window, results other than those picked in the sweep window is still cleared.
