The new command “boundingbox” in Ansys Lumerical’s Photonic Inverse Design implementation (lumopt) speeds up the calculation of the derivative of the permittivity with respect to each parameter in shape optimization for configurations with localized changes in geometry. A typical example is the optimization of polarization-splitting grating couplers (PSGC) formed by a 2D array of scatterers.
When using “express mode” for GPU in Ansys Lumerical FDTD, the software will automatically modify the simulation settings that are not compatible with that mode so that the simulation runs without being stopped by warning pop-up windows. The corresponding Edit window of the modified property will be updated with a warning message after the simulation has finished (“Analysis mode”). Users are encouraged to go to “Check simulation and memory requirements” before running the simulation to review a report of the changes.
The new “Auto Update Plots” option in the Frequency analysis tab of the Eigensolver Analysis in Ansys Lumerical MODE allows users to avoid refreshing the plots in the window as the sweep progresses. Enabling this option can reduce the data transfer when using a remote machine.
SYSTEM Suite Enhancements
The new “fiber_array” photonics model in CML Compiler can describe the behavior of a multi-fiber array with arbitrary number of fibers. The model supports any number of parameters for the variations of each fiber, which can be correlated and varied statistically.
