Coatings with the Surface object
To create conformal coatings with the surface object, simply create a copy of the object and shift it vertically by the desired thickness of your coating. In this example, the coating is 0.5um thick.
It is important to remember that there will be a region where the two objects overlap. The mesh order property must be used to specify that the substrate material properties should be used in these regions.
Coatings with the Import object
To create conformal coatings with the import object, import the surface data into the top surface of the substrate object. Set the upper reference height to the desired value. In this example, 0um is used. Next, create a copy of the object and set the upper reference height of the copy to the desired value. The difference between the upper reference height of the two objects will define the coating thickness.
At this point, the Import structures will look very similar to the surface objects. There will be a region where the two objects overlap. However, with the Import object, it’s possible to import the surface data into the lower surface as well as the upper surface. Once the surface is imported into the lower surface, the two Import objects will not overlap at all. The surface pattern on the bottom of the object is visible:
