Shared Features
FlexNet license manager
Lumerical now offers a FlexNet based license manager.
FDTD Solutions 8.5
TFSF source supports angled injection
The TFSF source is now capable of injecting at non-normal angles.
MODE Solutions 6.0
Results manager and Visualizer
The Results Manager 1 is a tool for analyzing simulation data. This includes a Results View window which displays all the results for the simulation object that is currently selected in the Object Tree. The Results Manager also includes a Script Workspace and a Script Favorites window, providing additional GUI-based functionalities.
Also featured in MODE Solutions 6.0 is a Visualizer, which significantly simplifies the process of visualizing simulation data. When used in conjunction, Results Manager and the Visualizer provide a very useful and intuitive way of analyzing and visualizing variables and results through the GUI, greatly reducing the need for scripting.
Mode expansion monitors
MODE Solutions 6.0 features new mode expansion monitors. These monitors allow users to expand an arbitrary field profile (from a monitor) into a specific mode (or a set of modes). For more information on this expansion calculation, and the results that are returned, see Using Mode Expansion Monitors.
The Mode Expansion monitor greatly facilitates the interoperability between MODE Solutions and INTERCONNECT as it returns the S parameters, which can be imported into INTERCONNECT directly. Please see the Ring resonator (parameter extraction and yield analysis) getting started example for how to do this.
Search near complex effective index values
The Eigenmode solver in MODE Solutions 6.0 allow users to search for modes around a specific complex value of effective index, making it much easier to study modes with high loss (ex. surface plasmon modes). See Modal Analysis -> Set calculation parameters for more information.
DEVICE 2.0
Results manager and Visualizer
The Results Manager 1 is a tool for analyzing simulation data. This includes a Results View window which displays all the results for the simulation object that is currently selected in the Object Tree. The Results Manager also includes a Script Workspace and a Script Favorites window, providing additional GUI-based functionalities. Note: “Script Favorites” has been removed since 2019B.
Also featured in DEVICE 2.0 is the improved Visualizer, which significantly simplifies the process of visualizing simulation data. When used in conjunction, Results Manager and the Visualizer provide a very useful and intuitive way of analyzing and visualizing variables and results through the GUI, greatly reducing the need for scripting.
Datasets
Lumerical datasets are structured data objects that collect a set of related matrices into a single convenient object. See Dataset introduction for more information.
Yield analysis tool
A new yield analysis tool is available in the Optimization and Sweeps window. The yield analysis tool gives users the ability to run extensive Monte Carlo analysis, sweeping across multiple parameters to assess statistical variations of circuit elements on overall circuit performance.
Other new script commands
The following script functions were added in DEVICE 2.0. For more information, see the function descriptions in the scripting section of the Reference Guide.
. operator, addattribute, addparameter, eig, debug, getattribute, getparameter, getresult, getsweepresult, integrate2,matrixdataset 1, addmodeexpansion, mult, permute rectilineardataset, reshape 1
INTERCONNECT 2.0
Yield analysis tool
In INTERCONNECT 2.0, a yield analysis tool is available in the Optimization and Sweeps window. The yield analysis tool gives users the ability to run extensive Monte Carlo analysis, sweeping across multiple parameters to assess statistical variations of circuit elements on overall circuit performance.
Please see the Yield analysis example for more information.
Faster frequency domain calculations
Improved simulation engine provides substantial speed increase to frequency domain calculations.
Cascaded elements
S-parameters for cascaded elements are automatically calculated within INTERCONNECT, simplifying the definition of circuits employing these elements.
New scripted element capabilities
Set and get digital, electrical and optical signals in time domain.
Full view window
The Full View window shows the entire schematic of the selected view port and allows the user to select a particular section and pan over the circuit.
Connection pins
It is now possible to insert a pin along an existing connection, allowing you to drag and modify the path of the connection between the two components. Simply right-click on a connection and select "Insert pin".
New script commands
The following script functions were added in INTERCONNECT 2.0. For more information, see the function descriptions in the scripting section of the Reference Guide.
flipelement, getposition, getrectangle, histc, histogram, lognrnd, randn, randnmatrix 1, rotateelement, setmodes, setposition, setrectangle, . operator, addattribute, addparameter, eig, debug, getattribute, getparameter, getresult, getsweepresult, matrixdataset 1, rectilineardataset, mult, permute, integrate2, reshape 1
