In this unit we are going to simulate transmission through an optical fiber using the Transient
Block Mode option.
We will start by adding a CW laser to the design window.
The signal from the laser will be modulated by an amplitude modulator.
The modulation signal will come from a non-return to zero pulse generator driven by a PRBS generator.
Let’s connect the sources and the modulator.
Next, we will place the optical fiber followed by a pin photodiode and connect them.
Finally, we will add an eye diagram analyzer and connect it to the output of the pin photodiode
and the modulating electrical signal to view the eye diagram.
In the Root Element we will set the “output signal mode” to “block” and then click
RUN to run the simulation in block mode.
Once the simulation ends, we can select the eye diagram analyzer go to the result view
window to visualize the eye diagram.
We can see the nonlinear effects of the optical fiber model in the eye diagram.
