I’m Nancy, a support engineer at Lumerical, and I’ll be presenting this introductory
course on the Eigenmode expansion solver, also known as the EME solver, in MODE Solutions.
This is a frequency-domain solver that is ideal for simulating devices with bi-directional
propagation.
Devices with long propagation distances such as adiabatic tapers, and periodic devices
such as Bragg gratings can be simulated efficiently using EME, since the simulation time does
not scale with propagation length or number of periods of the device.
To get users up to speed quickly, we will first demonstrate the full workflow by setting
up and analyzing a practical example of a spot size converter device, before going into
detail about the EME solver algorithm, and features.
Since the EME solver makes use of the Finite Difference Eigenmode solver algorithm, and
also shares many setup properties with the FDE solver, the FDE 100 course is a recommended
prerequisite of this course.
Everyone who passes the course will receive a Lumerical University EME 100 certificate.
If you’re interested in getting started with the EME solver, this is the course for
you.
