To calculate the modes that can propagate into the structure, you first need to click
the “run” button.
This will open the “Eigensolver Analysis” window, where you can set the calculation
parameters.
We will set the wavelength to 1.5um, the number of trial modes to 10, and check “use the
max index”.
Click “Mesh structure” to display the material properties in the plot area.
To calculate the modes, click on “Calculate Modes”.
Once the calculation done, you can find the mode list at the top of the window.
In the plot area, you can see the field profile of the selected mode.
We will now recalculate the modes using a finer mesh.
To do so, we have to switch back to layout mode, so we can edit the mesh override object
and set the mesh to 10nm in x and y.
In the next unit, we will demonstrate some further analysis.
