Now that we have already run the simulation, we are ready to obtain and analyze results.
Right-click on the CHARGE solver and select "Visualize > anode" to view the current and
voltage results at the anode contact.
The anode dataset has multiple results (or attributes) saved.
To view the total current at this contact, remove all of the attributes except “I”.
This is the current-voltage characteristics of the p-n diode we just simulated.
The exponential forward bias current expected from a diode at around the turn on voltage
is obvious from the plot.
Visualizing the current at the cathode contact will provide the same curve but with reverse
polarity as expected.
Next.
Lets check out the band structure of the p-n junction.
To do so, right click on the band structure monitor and select visualize > bandstructure.
In the visualizer window, select the line option under plot types to view the bandstructure
as a line plot.
The plot shows the relative energy levels of conduction, valence, intrinsic, and fermi
bands as a function of position in the junction.
From the band structure, it is easy to recognize the p and n side of the junction and also
the potential barrier created by the junction.
To observe the evolution of the bandstructure as a function of the bias voltage, select
the “V_anode” parameter form the list of parameters and use the slider on the right
to move between different bias voltage values.
You can see that as the voltage goes toward forward bias, the potential barrier will decrease
leading to an increase in the flow of current as was observed from the current-voltage plot.
