A typical workflow of EME starts with setting up the simulation.
This includes defining the materials, setting up structures and simulation region, selecting
port modes, and adding monitors.
You are then ready to run the simulation.
The first step is to find the modes for each cell in the simulation volume.
You are now in Analysis mode and can propagate the input mode and calculate the S-matrix
using the found modes at each segment.
Once the propagation is performed, you can obtain results such as field profile, index
profile and S-matrix and do further analysis if necessary.
The typical design process is iterative, so you will repeat these steps to characterize or
optimize the device performance.
The Optimizations and Sweeps tool can be used to automate this process.
A new simulation will be run for each parameter in the sweep.
If you are only interested in varying the length of your device, it's not necessary
to re-calculate the modes of each cell, since the cell modes are independent of the cell
span.
You can simply adjust the cell spans and re-propagate the fields.
This characteristic makes length sweeps in EME very efficient.
