Transcript
The materials in the Material Database are the same as FDTD Solutions, and new materials
can be added to the Material Database in the same way.
Once the varFDTD solver region is added, the Material Explorer will report the effective
material properties at the slab mode position and at the test points that were set up in
the varFDTD solver region.
The Material Explorer will not show the material properties of the physical materials used
in the 3D structure, so to see the raw material data, you will need to either remove the solver
region or have a different solver region active.
If bandwidth in the varFDTD solver region's Effective index tab is set to “narrowband”,
the effective index is calculated at the center frequency of the simulation, so the simulated
material properties will only be correct at the center frequency.
If the bandwidth is set to “broadband” then the material properties are calculated
at multiple points over the simulation range and a material fit over the range is used.
The material data of the effective materials can be plotted and fitted in the same way
as done in FDTD Solutions.
We will show a demonstration of the Material Explorer in the following unit.
