Hi, I'm Nancy, Sr. Support Engineer at Lumerical.
I'll be presenting this introductory course on the Finite-Difference Eigenmode (or FDE)
solver from our MODE Solutions software.
My colleague Roberto will be a guest presenter for one of the sections of this course.
The FDE solver can be used to calculate the characteristic modes or eigenmodes supported
by a uniform waveguide or fiber.
The built-in visualization tools allow you and characterize the supported modes of given
the cross section of a waveguide or fiber.
The built-in tools allow us to perform frequency analysis, and calculate additional results
such as the overlap and power coupling between two modes.
I will be going over these calculationsto see the electric and magnetic fields of each
mode over a cross section of the structure, and the built-in analysis tools compute many
common quantities often used by designers to characterize modes.
As we will see, these include the effective index of each mode, the dispersion relations
and the overlap between the fields of different modes..
The course will start with a demonstration showing how to set up, run, and analyze results
for a simple waveguide, and this section of the course can be taken as a standalone tutorial
for new users to get up to speed quickly.
In the remainder of the course, we will go into detail about the solver physics, features
and built-in analysis tools.
Anyone who passes the FDE 100 course will receive a Lumerical University certificate
of achievement.
